The warning followed a complaint from Russian regulator Roskomnadzor, alleging content violations, while YouTube didn’t specify the law violated.
OVD-Info, a Russian rights group, stated that YouTube has threatened to remove one of its channels in Russia, Kak Teper, which has 100,000 followers and analyses the Ukraine war and political topics.
According to Reuters, YouTube’s alert came after Russian regulator Roskomnadzor filed a complaint alleging that the clip broke information technology regulations. OVD-Info is negotiating with YouTube and Google, claiming that the prospective block constitutes political censorship.
YouTube did not explain which legislation was broken or react to queries about the matter, although it did confirm the reinstatement of films from other opposition channels. Because YouTube has tens of millions of monthly users, completely blocking it in Russia may be unpopular.
