A recent survey conducted by Robin AI and Perspectus Global revealed that nearly one in three respondents would be open to having a robot lawyer represent them in court.

The survey, which gathered insights from 4,152 individuals in the United States and the United Kingdom, highlighted that while there is a willingness to embrace AI in the legal industry, most people still prefer human oversight when it comes to legal matters.

Only 4% of respondents expressed full trust in artificial intelligence for legal advice. The majority (69%) favored traditional lawyers, while 27% were open to using AI as a support tool alongside human professionals. Interestingly, those willing to opt for an AI lawyer over a human counterpart would require an average discount of 57%.

The survey findings underscored a growing acceptance of AI in specific legal tasks such as rental contract review (49%), will drafting (47%), and contesting parking fines (46%). However, trust levels dropped significantly for more complex issues like divorces, with only 17% feeling confident about relying on AI.

Richard Robinson, CEO of Robin AI emphasized the importance of reform within the legal industry. He stated: “People seek faster and more cost-effective legal assistance without compromising on human judgment. We advocate for human-led AI solutions that enhance accessibility without sacrificing accountability.”

Lower costs (47%), round-the-clock availability (35%), and quicker case resolutions (35%) emerged as key incentives driving the adoption of AI-based legal services among respondents.

Interestingly, trust levels towards AI were higher among participants from the United Kingdom at 82%, compared to those from the United States at 76%, particularly concerning safety or compliance training for artificial intelligence.

Notably, U.S. respondents displayed greater confidence – with 13% expressing high trust – towards large corporate law firms utilizing advanced technology compared to their counterparts in the UK at just 8%.
