Just after Elon Musk expressed fear about AI taking away employment, Yann LeCun, Meta’s AI leader, stated that AI cannot acquire human-like intelligence. According to Facebook-parent Meta’s AI leader, LLMs lack understanding.
Yann LeCun, Meta’s AI leader, stated that AI chatbots such as ChatGPT would never achieve human-level intelligence due to a lack of reasoning by definition. His ‘fire-like’ words come at a time when industry titans like Google and OpenAI are making significant investments in AI development.
What does Yann LeCun say about AI?
While the world is turning to AI to change the ‘tech’ world, LeCun appears to have a different perspective. “Animals and humans learn very rapidly with far less training data than existing AI systems. LeCun explained that current LLMs are trained on literature that would take a person 20,000 years to read.
According to LeCun, organisations should not rely on existing LLMs to achieve human-level intelligence. He says that in order to effectively respond to human commands, these models require the appropriate training data. This finally leads to the conclusion that they are ‘intrinsically hazardous’.
