National privacy watchdogs have expressed concerns about the widely used AI service, prompting continuing investigations.

The EU’s privacy watchdog task force has expressed reservations about OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, claiming that the steps implemented to ensure openness are insufficient to meet data accuracy criteria. In a report issued on Friday, the task group stated that while measures to minimise misunderstanding of ChatGPT’s output are desirable, issues about data quality must be addressed thoroughly.

The task force was created by Europe’s national privacy watchdogs in response to concerns expressed by Italian authorities over the use of ChatGPT. Despite ongoing investigations by national authorities, a detailed summary of the findings has yet to be released. The conclusions reported in the paper reflect a consensus among national authorities.
